Description
Description | The County Government of Kakamega has allocated 48 acres and has already mapped up another 152 acres for purchase in Mumias West Sub-County for the development of an EPZ project to establish an industrial park. The idea of the EPZ will transform the economy of the entire region as it will attract industrialization which has spontaneous benefits including job creation and economic empowerment of the people. The designated land boasts of a good road network, access to reliable water, assured security and electricity. The Industrial Park will be a success because it has the goodwill of the County Government of Kakamega and the initiative lies within the National Government’s Big Four Agenda of Manufacturing and Job Creation. The park will contribute to the realization of many goals of national innovation and sustainable development strategies. A well planned and equipped park stimulates; • Relocation of industries to semi-urban or rural areas • Helps to relieve congestion and pollution in urban areas • Strengthens the industrial base of municipalities • Reduces rural- urban migration. Key aspects of the investment and collaboration Besides the land being provided by the County Government, other business-enabling incentives have been designed to ensure the investor(s) do their work seamlessly. In return, the County Government hopes to achieve this objective of constructing and operationalization of the Industrial Park by partnering with Investor(s) and resource partners through Joint Venture Agreements (JVA). From the said JVA, the following outcomes should be realized; • Building of a modern industrial park • Establishment of various factories e.g. garment, leather as well as assembly of agricultural equipment and farm machinery • Building of warehouses within the park • Establishment of real estates • Building of a data centre and recovery points • Setting up industries e.g. Agro processing plants. • Construction of a shopping mall for business |
