Description
Description | Colombia, one of the most water-rich countries in the world, has increasingly fewer usable water resources available regionally and locally. The consequences of climate change (water stress or flooding) and heavily polluted surface waters (untreated or incompletely treated wastewater, improperly disposed waste) mean that the water supply in individual cities and regions is becoming increasingly volatile. In order to protect surface waters and secure the water supply for the population, the project envisages investments in the urban water sector (water, wastewater and waste management). As the borrower and sponsor of the project, FINDETER provides interested utility companies, municipalities or regional actors with liquidity via commercial banks in order to finance planning and investment services. The aim of the FC module is to expand needs-based financing for investments in water and waste management that reduce the burden on the environment and climate caused by the sector or increase its resilience to the effects of climate change. The direct target group of the project are the institutions developing infrastructure, which will benefit from improved access to low-interest and long-term financing. The indirect target group are the residents of the cities and municipalities in which measures are being developed or are having an impact. By providing a long-term loan of up to EUR 70 million at advantageous conditions, the sponsor and borrower, the development bank FINDETER (Financiera de Desarollo Territorial), will expand the financing offer in the Colombian market and give end borrowers improved access to financing in the water and waste management sector. |
