Description
Description | With its current development cooperation commitment, the German Federal Government is the most important bilateral donor in the area of municipal infrastructure in Georgia. The module presented complements this in terms of content and space by supporting medium-sized and smaller municipalities, Baghdati, Samtredi, Stepantsminda and Vani, which have not yet been comprehensively included in the programs of other donors or the Georgian state. These municipalities are located in two regions of the country, Imereti (in the west) and Mtskheta-Mtianeti (in the eastern part of the country, on the border with Russia), both of which have high tourism potential. For the first time in Georgia, an integrative approach is being pursued that includes the rehabilitation, modernization and new construction of various municipal infrastructure. As part of the project, both the water supply and rainwater and wastewater disposal and other municipal infrastructure (including transport infrastructure, public lighting, public squares and sidewalks, etc.) in selected project municipalities will be improved. In addition, the capacities of the local UWSCG centers and the municipalities, particularly with regard to their technical, financial and administrative management capacities, are being strengthened as part of an accompanying measure (BMZ No. 2017 70 320 and 2019 70 425). As a result, the project communities are being equipped with efficient, environmentally and climate-friendly, sustainable and consumption-oriented basic municipal services. The living conditions of the population are improving due to the upgraded municipal infrastructure. In addition, the project makes a significant contribution to regional economic development and employment promotion by creating the conditions for sustainable tourism development. |
