Subcomponent of the Municipal Infrastructure V program / Water Sector Performance and Investment Program (WPIP) Description of the overall program Core problem 1) No continuous drinking water supply. 2) High technical and administrative losses. 3) Low tariffs that do not cover costs. 4) Untreated wastewater is released into the environment. Module objective Ensuring a reliable and hygienically safe drinking water supply for the population in selected program cities in Albania at cost-covering and socially acceptable prices and guaranteeing acceptable residential hygiene through proper wastewater disposal - with increased performance/cost coverage of the utility companies. Key outputs 1) The water supply/wastewater disposal systems are rehabilitated and expanded. 2) The technical systems are operated properly. 3) The municipal utilities work efficiently. Target group The target group is the population in selected cities in Albania who are connected to the central water supply and wastewater disposal system or who will be connected to the network as part of the project. Contribution to the national implementation of Agenda 2030 The Albanian government has officially committed itself to Agenda 2030 and its principles and has taken the global goals of the Agenda into account in the development of the National Strategy for Development and Integration. The module contributes to the national implementation of Agenda 2030 as follows: Primary contribution to SDG 6 (ensure availability and sustainable management of water and sanitation for all) Important contributions to SDG 3 (health) and SDG 8 (economic growth)
