Description
Description | The project consists of water line extensions in North Grant and from Church Street to Beech Hill in the Municipality of the County of Antigonish. The scope of the work involves the installation of 2.5 km of water line. The project aims to improve the quality of the water to residents in both areas. North Grant: This project is a 1.5km waterline extension providing 17 properties with potable drinking water. Twelve (12) of the properties are occupied with either residential or agricultural development. Properties in this area have significant challenges locating potable on-site water. The project was identified by property owners who continue to struggle with poor water. It will eliminate the need for expensive and energy consuming filtration systems and the frequent purchase of bottled water. The property owners receiving this service extension have been consulted and have agreed to a local improvement charge, demonstrating the need for this municipal service. A tender for this project has been completed and is ready for public bidding. Church Street to Beech Hill - A 1km waterline is proposed to connect the Church Street Extension and Beech Hill Road waterlines. Connecting currently separate, dead-end waterlines will improve access to potable water by improving: 1) operational efficiency requiring less maintenance thus reducing operating costs; 2) reliability by creating an alternate line reducing service interruptions (presently, all customers beyond the location of an interruption are without water until it is resolved); 3) quality by continually circulating water through the lines; and 4) pressure throughout the system, which is particularly important for commercial development. This project will improve service for 355 residential and 40 commercial customers, including those located at a developing regional commercial area at Highway 104, Exit 33. A tender has been prepared for this project. |
