Description

Description

The project consists of upgrades water treatment plant in the community of Arichat. The scope of the work involves the involves installation of a new chemical injection system for corrosion control product, modernization of instrumentation, major repair of DAF / filters, upgrades to chemical dosing equipment and controls. The project aims to improve the quality of the water system water treatment plant and the potable water produced by the facility. The Arichat WTP upgrade project is required to address two regulatory issues at the plant. The WTP is not presently meeting its Operating Approval as it relates to Health Canada’s Guidelines for Canadian Drinking Water Quality. Due to inefficient organics removal, the treated water is exceeding allowable limits for disinfection by-products (DBPs). The Municipality’s lead testing program has also shown that a corrosion control program must be implemented at the plant in order to reduce exposure to lead (at the consumer’s tap resulting from the plumbing within the home). The project involves installation of a new chemical injection system for corrosion control product, modernization of instrumentation, major repair of DAF / filters, upgrades to chemical dosing equipment and controls work necessary to optimize plant operations for efficient organics removal and disinfection as well as appropriate corrosion control.
