Description | On December 2011, Orion-Long King, an Independent Power Producer, was signed a Build Own and Operate agreement with Bangladesh Power Development Board (BPDB) for the construction and operation for a 25 years term of a 522 MW, coal-fired power plant at Munshiganj Mawa. Orion-Long King was a joint venture between Orion Group (Bangladesh, 50 %) and Long King (China, 50%). Under the BOO agreement, Orion-Long King was to supply 522 MW of energy to BPDB for a term of 25 years. The remainder of the energy was to be sold to the public. Following an international tender process, Orion-Long King was awarded to set up a 522 MW coal-fired power plant at Khulna. The total project cost was 578.9 US millions. The project reached financial closure in February 2012, after a BPDB's source. The BPDB will purchase electricity at 5.8497 US$ per unit 1kWh.
