Description

Description

The 1.5GW Murchison Green Hydrogen project in Western Australia has been selected for fast-track approval under the national government’s new Investor Front Door pilot programme. It is being developed by Denmark-based renewables developer Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners (CIP) and was awarded up to A$814m of subsidies under the government’s A$2bn Hydrogen Headstart programme. The project is due to be built near the coastal town of Kalbarri, about 600km north of Perth, using up to 6GW of wind and solar to produce roughly two million tonnes of green ammonia annually. CIP aims to export the ammonia to global markets. The first phase's final investment decision is expected at the end of 2026, with production beginning at the end of 2029 and full 1.5GW electrolyser operation by the end of 2031.
