Description | The MMSEZ is a multi-billion-rand special economic zone in Limpopo, South Africa, consisting of two sites: Artonvilla near Musina for light manufacturing, and Mopani near Makhado for heavy industry. The project aims to develop a mega industrial park with state-of-the-art logistics facilities. Despite significant spending on consultants and some infrastructure contracts, the project has stalled with no completed roads, electricity, or water connections. Only one company, the China-based Kinetic Development Group, has committed to investing in a ferrochrome smelter. The project faces challenges including land transfer issues, litigation, environmental opposition, and water supply concerns. A turnaround plan has been implemented with construction on the first projects expected to start in September 2025. |
