Description
Description | The project is grant funding from the non-governmental organization (NGO) myAgro to expand its business activities. MyAgro's main concern is to support farmers, especially small farmers and women. This is done through a combination of providing seeds and fertilizers using a savings product (layaway) and training to increase agricultural productivity and efficiency. MyAgro was already funded by KfW in a first phase and the grant will be continued following a positive evaluation and success of the project. In the second phase of the project, farmers will be supported through two project components: on the one hand through an emergency aid program and on the other hand through the implementation of agroecological principles in agricultural practice. The emergency aid program aims to offer the layaway packages offered by myAgro at a reduced price. Farmers in Mali are affected by multiple crises and, due to price increases, can often only cultivate smaller areas of land than before the crisis. The emergency aid program is intended to help them to be able to cultivate larger areas of land again and thus generate higher income through higher harvest yields. This is expected to have a long-term, sustainable effect on the income situation of farmers and to contribute to food security in Mali. The second component of the project aims to promote agroecological farming methods and soil protection. This goal is to be achieved by planting 500,000 trees, reducing the use of chemical fertilizers and using organic fertilizers, as well as pilot projects for intercropping. |
