Description | The Mzima Two project is a water infrastructure project proposed in 2017 to address water shortages by delivering 105,000 cubic metres of water daily to Mombasa, Taita Taveta, Kwale, and Kilifi counties. The project faces delays due to bureaucratic challenges, slow approvals, complex negotiations, and the scale and technical demands of the project. The government has selected a Chinese contractor, Sichuan Road and Bridge Group, and the project cost is estimated at $389,565,866 (Sh50.3 billion) excluding taxes. Public participation and contract negotiations are ongoing, with the project planned to be implemented through a public-private partnership arrangement. |
