Description | The North China Plains Agricultural Project will provide drainage and irrigation facilities for about 200,000 ha in nine counties, located in the three provinces of Shandong, Anhui, and Henan in the North China Plain. It is designed to overcome the main agricultural constraints of soil salinity, waterlogging, and surface flooding. The project includes construction and improvement of main, lateral, sublateral and on-farm drains and irrigation ditches; construction of and equipment for pumping stations and tubewells; additions to existing rural electrification systems; construction and improvement of rural roads; provision of agrochemicals and agricultural machinery and equipment; establishment of orchards and wood lots; strengthening of research and extension services in the project areas; comprehensive soil and water studies; and a North China Plain Agricultural Study. |
