N2 Edge Project (N2 Wall Project)

The City of Cape Town's N2 Edge project, informally called the N2 wall project, aims to replace and reinforce a severely deteriorated security barrier along the N2 highway. The project includes a package of safety and community-focused interventions to improve safety for communities along the N2 highway, including commuters from Khayelitsha, Mitchells Plain, Blue Downs, Eerste River, Mfuleni, the Helderberg, and neighboring towns. It involves the construction of a 3m high, 8km security wall along the N2 highway to curb crime, supported by increased highway patrolling, deployment of over 40 new metro cops, CCTV cameras, automatic number plate recognition, and digital coordination for rapid response.
