Nagpur Metro Inter-Track Solar Pilot Project

Nagpur Metro Rail Corporation Limited (NMRCL) has commissioned India's first inter-track solar power project at Hingna Depot. The pilot project spans a 200-metre stretch and uses monocrystalline solar panels with a capacity of 50 kilowatt peak. The system is designed to withstand vibrations from moving trains and utilizes previously unused space between tracks. The electricity generated will be supplied directly to the depot's internal power network, providing a captive renewable power solution for depot operations. The installation is expected to generate around 70,000 units of electricity annually and reduce carbon dioxide emissions by nearly 65 tonnes per year. The project was studied by the Electrical Department's Solar Energy division and executed through a vendor. Further expansion will be considered after performance review.
