Description | Nagpur city is located in the state of Maharashtra. It had a population of approximately 2,000,000 in 2001 (Census of India 2001). The city municipality, Nagpur Municipal Corporation awarded a Concession to Veolia Water India, a subsidiary of French company Veolia Environnement’s in June 2007 to a) rehabilitate the plant and expand capacity and b) to operate the Pench -I Water Treatment Plant at Gorewada, Nagpur subsequently for a period of 5 years. As the operator, Veolia Water India would invest in rehabilitating the treatment plant including expansion of capacity from 113.5 to 136 Million Litres per Day(MLD) and operate the plant for a period of 5 years. As part of the scope of work, Veolia Water India was also required to recycle filtered backwash water and sludge at Pench I & II water supply scheme. The Project was initiated under the Jawaharlal Nehru Urban Renewal Mission (JNNURM) program of the Government of India and is expected to get commissioned from 1st April 2008. Veolia Water India would operate and maintain the treatment plant for a period of 5 years till 2013. The total project cost for augmentation was US$ 1.6 Million (Indian Rupees 64.13 Million). The government contribution through JNNURM funds was US$1 Million (Indian Rupees 40 Million). Veolia Water India invested US$ 0.6 Million (Indian Rupees 24.13 Million). Nagpur Municipal Corporation would pay back the operator this amount during the Contract period as Equal Monthly Installment along with the Operations and Maintenance fee. |
