Description

Description

The project will construct an approximately 10,000 sq ft skatepark, a youth-driven initiative. It features "all wheels access" including adequate access points, integration of assistive technologies and implementation of terrain elements for Wheel Chair Motocross riders, individuals with low or impaired vision as well as aid assisted riders. The current skate park is at end of life and there have been three separate petitions passed around which resulted in a meeting with Nak’azdli Chief and Council. This is a youth-driven project. Recently the community of Nak’azdli has faced a series of suicides amongst youth, and has historically had issues with youth mental health outcomes and substance use on reserve. Consultation to review current skate park in conjunction to supporting the idea of Crime Prevention through Environmental Design, resulted in the community determining to show the youth of the community they are valued by creating a space designed for youth to participate in an all wheels sport enjoyment space. The project works will include: - approximately 10,000 sq ft concrete skatepark; - Landscaping; - bleachers and benches; - Pathways; and, - related works.
