North Trade Cement Corporation developed the 5MW Nam Cat small hydropower plant, Hoang Then commune, Phong Tho district, Lai Chau province. The project was expected to generate 17.601 MWh annually. The project consisted of 2 Pelton turbines of 2.6MW each. Output was evacuated via a 35kV transmission line (3km). Project life was 30 years. Commissioning date was expected for May 2012. A stakeholders meeting was held in September 2010. No further information was available. The project applied for UNFCCC CDM financing. The project was UNFCCC CDM validated by KEMCO, from Korea. Total project cost was unknown, but estimated at US$5 million, based on a conservative US$1 million/MW. Financial closure date was unknown, therefore the project is reported as under development.
