Description | The project will increase the quality of drinking water to the Whiskey Creek community in the Regional District of Nanaimo by constructing a transmission main to convey drinking water from the new source well to the existing reservoir. The community of Whiskey Creek has been using water from an unreliable creek source and this project will provide permanent access to secure and reliable drinking water services that meet public health requirements. This project will allow the Regional District of Nanaimo to provide reliable drinking water that meets public health requirements to the community of Whiskey Creek. The project works will include: - Construction of approximately 1.2 km, underground transmission main from the wellsite to the reservoir; - Installation of a back-up generator for emergency power to the wellsite and the distribution pumps; - Installation of approx. 1.2 km of power and communication cabling to service the wellsite; - Replace distribution pumps including Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs); - Installation of UV disinfection and chlorination to meet Island Health treatment objectives; - Tie-in of the new system into the existing RDN network; - related civil, mechanical and electrical works.
