The capital of Jiangxi Province, Nanchang, which currently has around 5 million inhabitants in the entire urban area and around 2.4 million in the central districts, is planning to build a subway network due to its strong population growth and the associated increase in urban traffic. This is to consist of a total of five lines with a travel distance of 168 km. The first line, 29 km long, with 24 underground stations is expected to go into operation at the end of 2015. As part of the project under consideration here, Line 2 will be built, which will connect the southwest of the city and the bus station there with the center and the eastern districts. The line will connect 21 underground stations over a total distance of 23 km. The city is expecting an initial passenger volume of 280,000 per day, which is to increase to almost 1 million travelers by 2040. The project sponsor is Nanchang Rail Transit Group Co. Ltd., founded in 2008. (NRTG), a company owned by the city of Nanchang. The total cost of the project is almost EUR 2.1 billion. Of this, EUR 100 million will be financed through an FC loan, which corresponds to around 5% of the total investment costs. The financing is ODA-eligible due to the OECD/DAC grant element of 53%.
