Information Northen Railway [NR] - I has come up with Nangal Dam-Talwara New Broad Gauge Line [84 KM] and Taking Over Siding Mukerian-Talwara [29 KM] with a ticket size of 2018 INR Crores. This project in Railway Track sub-sector involves The current status of the project is Notice to Proceed and is being developed through the EPC route. Economic/Social Impact of the Project Brief- The project from Nangal Dam-Talwara [84 km] and Mukerian - Talwara [29 km] was sanctioned in 1982-83. The section from Nangal Dam to Daulatpur Chowk station [about 60 km] has been commissioned for traffic. The alignment of this project transverses in the sub-mountain region at the foothills of lower Shivalik Ranges in the State of Punjab and Himachal Pradesh for 63 km and 60 km respectively. It will provide and promote social economic development, generating employment opportunities for local people of HP and Punjab states by providing rail connectivity. Finally, when commissioned upto Mukerian, on the Ambala- Ludhiana- Jalandhar/ Jalandhar- Pathankot- Jammu section, it will be an alternative route to J&K State with strategic importance. The project has great significance for providing connection between Pathankot and Leh by a rail link. The sanctioned cost of the project is Rs. 2018 crore. The work is in progress between Mukerian to Talwara and Daulatpur Chowk to Kartoli Punjab. Land acquisition is in progress between Daulatpur Chowk - kartoli - Talwara and Patial - Bhangala. As state government could not acquired the land, the project has been declared as Special Railway Project on 22.08.2022 to expedite land acquisition proceedings. Now, land in being acquired under The Railways Act 1989 and notification under section 20A has been published.
