Description | The federal government is shutting down the Nanisivik naval station on northern Baffin Island as a cost-cutting measure and plans to offload the property to another party. The station, built at a former mining site and refurbished by the government, faced many delays and cost overruns and was only operational for a short seasonal period. The government has spent over $110 million on the facility and planned to spend more, but decided it is no longer needed due to its limited operational window and costly repairs. |
