Description
Description | The Napa Valley Vine Trail (Vine Trail) is a proposed 47-mile multi-use paved trail that will extend from the City of Calistoga to the Vallejo Ferry Terminal and connect to the San Francisco Bay Trail and Bay Area Ridge Trail. Many sections of the Vine Trail have been completed in the cities of Calistoga, Napa, American Canyon, Vallejo, and the Town of Yountville. In 2022, over 500,000 people walked and rolled along the segment of the Vine Trail from the south end of the City of Napa to the Town of Yountville and 70% were people who live and work in Napa County. The Yountville through St. Helena Segment remains a significant 11-mile-long gap between the existing 12.5-mile segment from Napa to Yountville and the nine-mile-long path under construction from Calistoga to St. Helena. The Project will provide a safe route to schools, jobs, services, and shopping. Between California Drive in Yountville and Whitehall Lane south of St. Helena, the alignment would generally follow the alignment of the Napa Valley Wine Train tracks. Between Whitehall Lane and Mitchell Drive in St. Helena, the alignment would be on the southwest side of Highway 29 (Main St.). Within the City St. Helena, the alignment would be along Mitchell Drive, Oak Avenue, Adams Street, the Napa Valley Wine Train tracks, and Pratt Avenue to Highway 29. The standard width of the path is 10 feet of asphalt concrete pavement and two – 2-foot-wide aggregate subbase shoulders. The project involves constructing five new bridges, eight railroad crossings, and numerous drainage culverts. Portions of the trail will include a barrier between the trail and Highway 29 and the Napa Valley Wine Train tracks. The Project could include a vista point parking lot along the west side of Highway 29 and across from the north end of Washington Street. The total estimated cost for design, right-of-way and construction is $30 million. If the County can obtain grant funding, permits and easements, the construction could begin in 2026. To be provided at a later date. |
