Description
Description | "The Chair ""Narratifs Européens de la Frontière"" from a European Integration History perspective aims to create a new Master level teaching offer at Sciences Po Strasbourg on the role of borders in the history of European Integration. Since 2015, European crises -migration, terrorism, COVID19- have led to significant re-bordering in Europe. This seems to seal the end of the historical narrative of successful European Integration replacing it with a new one on the history of European disintegration. In reality, however, historians have largely neglected the role of borders in European Integration. The Chair fills in this gap by a new approach to three historical narratives of EU (de)bordering: Europe without Borders (internal de-bordering), Fortress Europe (external bordering) and cross-border cooperation (decentred history of borders). First, a set of courses is proposed by the chair-holder and associated specialists for Master students at Sciences Po Strasbourg on the history of de-bordering (Internal Market, Schengen, enlargement), (re)bordering (European Neighbourhood policy, Migration policy) and of cross-border regions (territorial cooperation, regional policy). Second, three disputatio seminars will bring together Master students, researchers and local actors for a discussion on specific topics (COVID19 and cross-border cooperation, Brexit, Migration crisis). Third, three exploratory museum field trips, three student research seminars and a cross-border applied research workshop will assess research and policy options in the field. The Chair will lead to the publication of a Manual on Borders and European Integration, a set of teaching videos and oral witness archives on case studies of EU border narratives, to three webinars on European narratives of borders and a final conference. It is designed as a ""mirror"" Chair at the University of Strasbourg, with a second Chair being proposed by a fellow researcher at Sciences Po Strasbourg on border concepts in EU Law." |
