NASA has terminated the lunar Gateway space station project and is focusing on establishing a manned base at the Moon's South Pole. The project aims to create the first advanced human outpost in deep space, structured into three stages with an estimated cost of around $10 billion each. The first stage until 2028 focuses on refining technologies for reliable Moon access. The second stage from 2028 to 2031 involves construction of infrastructures such as communication systems, power sources, and navigation equipment to sustain human presence with manned missions twice a year. The third stage starting in 2032 aims at long-distance and extended-duration lunar exploration with astronauts staying for long periods.
