NASA's experimental X-59 supersonic jet is part of a long-term effort to change how fast commercial airplanes fly over land by producing only a "thump" instead of a loud sonic boom. The aircraft completed its second test flight but had to land early due to a cockpit warning light. More than 100 test flights are planned to gradually push toward higher, faster flights before testing muffled booms over towns.
