National Critical Minerals Mission (NCMM)

under implementation

The National Critical Minerals Mission is a government initiative launched in 2025 to secure and diversify sources of critical minerals essential for India's electric mobility transition. It aims to conduct 1,200 domestic exploration projects, purchase 50 mining sites globally by 2030-31, and focus on domestic production of at least 15 core critical minerals, with national stockpiles of at least five minerals. The mission is funded with INR 343 billion (US$4.1 billion) over seven years, including government spending and investments by public sector undertakings. It also includes strategic diversification measures such as partnerships with Argentina and Australia for lithium and rare-earth metals exploration and investment.
