National Quantum Communication Infrastructure in Finland

NaQCI.fi is the first important step that Finland is taking to embrace the EuroQCI initiative, with the main goal to let the main Finnish actors of secure communication networks play and familiarise themselves with QKD technologies. The expected outcome of the project is clear plans for a cost-effective deployment of the future national quantum communication infrastructure, also enabled by training a large number of users. The key activities towards these goals will be: 1. The development of an open access QKD testbed where to play with all relevant layers of QKD systems, including hardware and software; 2. Deployment and testing of links of different complexity on a metropolitan network for public use; 3. Deployment and testing of long links of different complexity on a secure governmental network, and 4. Demonstration of use cases based on the links deployed in points 2 and 3. The project has been initiated, supported, and encouraged directly by the Finnish Government, which has already secured the financial resources for the whole project duration to cover the cost share not covered by the EU grant.
