Description | The £19m National Secure Adolescent Inpatient Service, known as Foxgrove, is a mental health inpatient unit designed to care for children aged 12 to 18 in Ayrshire. The project is located on the grounds of Ayrshire Central Hospital in Irvine and was initially due to be completed more than three and a half years ago. The project has faced delays due to quality issues identified by NHS Scotland Assure, requiring rectification by the contractor, and further delays due to key risks relating to the completion of defects. The Scottish Government expects the facility to open in early 2026. The delay has caused children to be referred to similar services in England, impacting families and placing additional pressure on young people. |
