The objective of the National Water Supply and Sanitation Project are: (i) to improve the coverage, quality, efficiency, and sustainability of water and sanitation services in selected urban and rural communities; and (ii) enhance the capacity of Ministry for Construction and Territorial Development (MCTD) to prepare and supervise the implementation of investment program and to provide technical assistance to the operating Apa Canals. There are four components to the project. The first component of the project is water supply and wastewater services in seven municipal Apa Canals: Balti, Cahul, Cauqeni, Floresti, Orhei, Soroca, and Ungheni. The second component is rehabilitation of the water supplies in up to 50 rural communities. The third component is activities to build the capacity of MCTD to select, prepare, and supervise water supply and wastewater investment projects. The fourth and the final component of the project is activities to increase energy efficiency in urban water and wastewater systems.
