Description

GBI manages the Research Associate Program as one of its several programs. Partnering with federal and state agencies throughout the state of Nevada, provides training, work experience, and opportunities for environmental education to diverse youth across the state through conservation projects. This Task Agreement will provide early career professionals with an opportunity to learn about the environment and conservation project implementation as a Resource Assistant (RA). The RA will participate in a variety of resource management field projects and tasks relating to native plants and native plant seed collection and processing. These tasks include the following: survey, document, assess, report, propagate, collect, clean and prepare for storage native plant seed for restoration projects throughout southern Nevada and northeastern Arizona. Work will include surveying and accessing suitable native plant populations by vehicle or on foot; identification of native and non-native plants; care (including planting, weeding, and irrigation) for native plant seed increase fields; determine seed ripeness and viability; determine proper harvest, collection, cleaning and storage methods; and proper documentation of all accessions. The RA will perform all data management including GIS, Access, and photo data for all collections and the seed storage facility.
