Description
Description | The FC project Protected Areas and Biodiversity aims to contribute to the consolidation and expansion of Colombia's national protected area system (module objective). The project is in line with the development policy priorities of the Federal Government and Colombia with regard to the protection and conservation of biodiversity and important ecosystems. In particular, it supports the goals of the UN Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) to expand coastal and marine protected areas, which has also been ratified by the Federal Government. The FC funds of EUR 15.0 million are earmarked for investments in the following three components: 1) improving management effectiveness in existing protected areas (15 areas); 2) establishing new coastal and marine protected areas (3 areas); 3) strengthening the institutional and financial sustainability of the protected areas supported under the project. The concept of the project is based on an integrated approach that combines concrete support measures in selected protected areas with measures for the conceptual further development of management and support instruments in nature conservation and the necessary strengthening of the national and regionally responsible actors. The immediate target group is the predominantly indigenous population living within and around the project's protected areas. Around 52,000 people in and around these 15 protected areas are expected to benefit from the project. |
