Navajo Nation Code Talker Museum

critically stalled

A longstanding project to honor and memorialize the Navajo Nation Code Talkers. The project has been critically stalled due to funding and land withdrawal issues, with construction delayed and communication problems hindering progress. Funding of up to $9 million appropriated through Capital Outlay and New Mexico taxpayer funds could revert to the state if the Navajo Nation fails to justify another reauthorization. The project owner is the Navajo Nation, with involvement from the New Mexico Caucus and the Navajo Nation Capital Project Management Department. There is a reallocation of $8 million from the New Mexico Tribal Infrastructure Fund to Tohatchi public safety structures, and up to $28 million in Capital Project funds are expected to expire this fiscal year.
