Description

Description

NEREUS aims to develop the foundation of the Naval Smart System of Systems (SoS) for future European naval platforms, which should be able to operate interconnected in a fully integrated way under challenging multi-domain (i.e., land, aerial, surface, subsurface, and cyber) threat conditions and under an integral survivability approach. The main objective of NEREUS is to perform the Conceptual Design of the System of Systems (SoS) for the next generation of European naval platforms. It will identify and define the common operational requirements of the SoS framework and the essential elements, structured in four pillars Combat System, Platform Management System, Communication & Information System and Navigation System, along with a Survivability Advisory System Foundation and Transversal capabilities. NEREUS proposes a new architecture approach based on a SoS framework using a Service-Oriented-Architecture (SOA). The SoS Framework will integrate the essential elements of the ship in a coherent manner using a common infrastructure, including data and services, and promoting standardization, interoperability and interchangeability. This approach facilitates close coordination among all onboard systems to improve decision-making during operations, thereby maximizing survivability and optimizing the sustainment of Combat System capabilities according to the ship's conditions. NEREUS will identify the elements to be incorporated into future European naval platforms, considering both current and emerging technologies. A comprehensive roadmap will be developed, identifying technologies and associated elements to be considered and developed for the future European naval platforms, and prioritising these developments for subsequent phases. NEREUS is a 3.5-year project with a balanced consortium of 24 beneficiaries from 14 European countries, 12 large companies, 4 SMEs, 5 mid-caps, 2 research organisations, 1 naval industrial association,12 affiliated and 25 subcontractors.
