Description
Description | The project involves the development of the Navi Mumbai International Airport (NMIA), a large-scale greenfield aviation infrastructure initiative designed to supplement the existing Mumbai airport and meet rising air-traffic demand. It includes land acquisition, environmental clearances, construction of runways, terminals, ATC facilities, cargo zones, ground-transport integration, and supporting utilities. The development also incorporates advanced passenger-handling systems, sustainability-focused design elements, and phased expansion plans intended to increase capacity over time. The Navi Mumbai airport project will be developed on a 1,160-hectare site under a design, build, finance, operate and transfer (DBFOT) basis. The new airport is intended to relieve capacity pressure on the Mumbai Metropolitan Region, where air traffic demand is projected to exceed 40 million annual passengers by 2017 and 100 million passengers by 2030. It is expected to have a yearly capacity of 60 million passengers. |
