Navy Base Intermodal Facility (NBIF)

The Navy Base Intermodal Facility is a taxpayer-funded rail and cargo hub for the Port of Charleston located in North Charleston. The project involves constructing a rail yard where cargo containers will be transferred between trucks and trains operated by CSX Corp. and Norfolk-Southern railroads. The facility will include about 78,000 linear feet of track, a container stacking area, an administrative building, security booths, truck gates, and six electric gantry cranes. It aims to enhance SC Ports' capacity and reduce truck traffic on local roads.
