Description | Mauritania has signed a deal with Germany's Möhring Energie Holding GmbH to develop the NAYRAH project, a large-scale green hydrogen and green ammonia complex. The project will develop up to 1 GW of electrolysis capacity on an initial 500 square kilometers of land west of Nouadhibou, with potential expansion to 1,600 square kilometers. It will utilize combined solar and wind power for low-cost green hydrogen production, including sustainable features like seawater desalination and renewable by-products for agriculture and CO2-based fuel production. Commercial production is scheduled for 2029, aiming to supply up to 140,000 tons of green hydrogen and 400,000 tons of green ammonia annually, primarily for export to Europe. |
