Description
Description | Pan-African renewable energy company Axian Energy has achieved the financial close for the largest solar-plus-storage project in West Africa, namely the NEA Kolda development in the Casamance region of Senegal. The project is planned to have 60 MWp of solar power generation and 72 MWh of battery energy storage capacity. It entered the construction phase in May 2025, relying on the company’s own funds, and is expected to become operational in late November 2026, generating about 91 GWh of clean electricity per year. The output will be supplied to national electricity company Senelec under a 25-year power purchase agreement (PPA). The project supports Senegal’s objective to increase the share of renewables to 40% of its electricity mix by 2030. |
