Description | The Nebius AI factory is a proposed large-scale data center development planned along Lakeshore Parkway in Birmingham. The project has raised community concerns about environmental impacts, infrastructure strain, noise, water use, and proximity to neighborhoods, schools, and businesses. The facility will use closed-loop cooling to minimize water use and will include sound mitigation measures. Nebius will cover the full cost of power and infrastructure upgrades, including a switching station, on-site substation, and additional transmission facilities. Temporary natural gas generators and permanent diesel backup generators are planned. The project is already in the permitting process and exempt from a new moratorium on data center applications. |
