Description

Description

This is an engineering study which will assess the needs of a local peatland system which services a community owned housing development located in Stoneridge Circle in Osheweken, Ontario. The objective is to keep the effluent within Federal limits as per the Wastewater Systems Effluent Regulations and minimize environmental impacts to the Lake Erie Drainage Basin. This would meet the funds goals of increasing the capacity or lifespan of the asset, enhancing service and improving environmental outcomes. Off reserve benefits: The improvement of our Six Nations waste water system’s discharge into the McKenzie Creek and eventually into the Grand River will assist with water treatment for those municipalities who draw our effluent water downstream from the Grand River for potable water usage as well as help make rivers and lakes healthier, which would have a positive impact on municipal agricultural users and have an overall positive environmental impact on the Lake Erie Drainage Basin as well as help to achieve the phosphorous load reduction targets for Lake Erie as our waste water effluent has been documented to have high phosphorus levels.
