Description | The Neelum Jhelum Hydropower Project is a 969-MW hydropower project near Muzaffarabad, Pakistan. After being inoperative for more than a year due to the collapse of its tail race tunnel, the project has resumed electricity generation following the restoration of the tunnel. The project had started electricity generation in April 2018 and had generated more than 18 billion units of electricity for the national grid before the collapse. Rehabilitation was inaugurated by the outgoing Minister for Water Resources, Syed Khursheed Shah, who also lauded the efforts of WAPDA, the project team, consultants, and contractors. WAPDA awarded the remedial contract to a Chinese construction firm after federal government approval. |
