Neighbours in Europe - contacts of Lithuanian and Latvian libraries

closed

The project develops and strengthens cooperation between people and institutions in close-to-border regions of Plungė, Telšiai (LT) and Kurzeme, Saldus (LV) by establishing a network of libraries, writers, artists and scientists and documentation with the help of photography of the traditional lifestyle and environment of the living communities in the border areas. The photos of people and their environment, buildings in boroughs and villages at Latvian and Lithuanian frontiers together with the descriptions prepared in the framework of the project make a valuable collection for constant exhibitions, further research by students and culture specialists as well as contribute to raising the knowledge of neighbour culture and diminishing the stereotypes with the help of presentation of the best photos to a wider public. The durable cross-border cooperation of librarians established in the project also results in the improvement of the library work quality, expansion of their resources and initiation of new activities highlighting preservation of cultural heritage as well as attraction of more visitors to the libraries.
