Description
Description | Nelson Family Vineyards in Mendocino County, California, installed a floating photovoltaic (FPV) solar system on an irrigation pond to power 100% of its operations with renewable energy. The system, combined with an existing rooftop solar installation, is expected to generate around 200,000 kWh annually, powering the winery, agricultural pumps, tasting room, shop, and 12 on-site homes. The project aims to save approximately $90,000 annually and supports sustainable farming without taking agricultural land out of production. The FPV system also serves as a research site for UC Davis to study ecological impacts and benefits such as controlling invasive aquatic species. |
