Description
Description | The Australian Energy Market Operator (AEMO) reports that battery energy storage system projects totaling 67.3 GW are progressing through the National Electricity Market (NEM) in Australia. This represents a 33% annual growth from 50.5 GW in Q1 2025 to 67.3 GW in Q1 2026. The pipeline includes standalone batteries, solar, and solar with battery projects, with batteries accounting for 49% of the overall NEM connections pipeline. Projects face challenges such as funding, supply chain, and design modifications, causing delays in full commissioning. Two BESS facilities, Swanbank (250 MW/500 MWh) and Limondale (50 MW/400 MWh), reached full output in Q1 2026. |
