Description | Nepal has begun exporting 40 megawatts (MW) of electricity to Bangladesh through India's power grid, marking its first move into the international energy market. Nepal is also exporting 80 MW to Bihar state in India. This power transaction follows a tripartite agreement between Nepal Electricity Authority, Bangladesh Power Development Board, and India's NTPC Vidyut Vyapar Nigam. The project is part of Nepal's rapid expansion of hydropower capacity, including the development of the 900 MW Arun-3 hydropower project by Indian producer SJVN in Nepal's Sankhuwasabha district. Additionally, India's Power Grid Corporation and Nepal Electricity Authority agreed to implement high-capacity cross-border transmission infrastructure to facilitate increased power trading. |
