-Purpose. This FOA issued by the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases, the National Institute on Drug Abuse, and the National Institute of Biomedical Imaging and Bioengineering, of the National Institutes of Health, solicits Research Project Grant (R01) applications from institutions/ organizations that propose to use neuroimaging approaches in obesity research in human subjects and animal models. Many areas of the brain interact or communicate with other organs to control eating behavior, physical activity and energy metabolism, and functional neuroimaging holds enormous promise for expanding our understanding of how food intake and energy expenditure are mismatched in a setting of abundantly available nutrients, leading to excessive fat storage. -Mechanism of Support. This FOA will utilize the R01 grant mechanism. -Funds Available and Anticipated Number of Awards.
