Nevada Rural Roads Safety Initiative

ongoing safety campaign

The Nevada Department of Transportation (NDOT) is emphasizing safety on rural roads ahead of the summer travel season. The initiative focuses on reducing fatal crashes on rural highways, which account for nearly 25% of the state's fatal crashes despite only 10% of the population living in rural areas. NDOT provides safety recommendations including vehicle readiness, carrying supplies, fuel strategy, route planning, and safe driving behaviors such as cautious passing, watching for wildlife, controlling speed, and maintaining visibility.
