New Castle County Data Centers Development

planned

Proposals to build at least five data centers in New Castle County, Delaware, have raised concerns about the energy demand potentially overwhelming the regional power grid. The project involves the construction of data centers that are energy-intensive and have significant economic and environmental impacts. The local government has passed legislation to regulate data centers by defining them as a specific use under the county code, restricting them to industrial zoning areas near high voltage power lines and away from communities, and requiring special use approvals to impose additional protections such as noise mitigation.
