New Central Library & Library Plaza - LRT Encapsulation

The LRT Encapsulation was part of the New Central Library project and was constructed while maintaining constant and uninterrupted transit service of the LRT. The majority of the LRT Encapsulation activities took place during regular working hours which involved an extremely high level of safety culture, education and monitoring from our construction management team and our sub-trades. We worked closely with Calgary Transit and communicated all of our work and strategies with them to ensure minimal impact to transit operations. Other project complexities included sequencing the data, signals and power of the train line while the controls were being relocated to the new Encapsulation structure all while keeping the trains operational. Relocating the data, signals and power is directly dependent on the progress of construction, requiring strict adherence to Stuart Olson’s project controls. Having the data, signals, power, permanent and temporary encapsulation in place allowed us to construct the main library building in this challenging location while enabling the LRT line to continue to operate.

High
