Description
Description | The Project “New Central Station in Norrköping – Level up” refers to the planning and design of a new central station in Norrköping including regulation documents, investigation and preliminary design as well as detailed design of the multimodal transportation hub and connecting areas. The station forms an important multimodal transport node in the Östergötland region (the region of east Sweden) and it is located on the TEN-T Core Network within the Scandinavian- Mediterranean European Transport Corridor. The purpose of the Project is to create an efficient multimodal passenger hub adapted to future capacity needs and to form an attractive and clear entrance to the city of Norrköping. It is part of the East Link Global Project which consists of the construction of a new double-track railway between Järna and Linköping (160 km) on the Scandinavian- Mediterranean European Transport Corridor. The East Link will generate benefits for urban development and regional expansion where the capacity of the railway system and travel time gains are significant. For instance, with the global project, the travel time from Stockholm to Norrköping (160 km) will be reduced by 15 minutes, and the travel time from Stockholm to Linköping (200 km) will be reduced by 30 minutes. The municipality of Norrköping cooperates with Trafikverket (Associated Partner), the railway station company Jernhusen and the Region Östergötland for the design of the station. The study will result in the regulation plan and the detailed design for decision-making concerning the construction works of the station.Preliminary designs and investigations will be produced as a basis for the regulation plan. Communication plan and visualization model are also important tools and will be developped. As the outcome of the Project, the station in Norrköping will become an interchange multimodal hub between international, national, regional and local transportation. It is a node for travellers by train, tram and bus as well as travellers by car, bicycle and on foot. The ambition is to create a seamless meeting between the railway and the city and a concentrated multimodal passenger hub that amount to short travel times with focus on sustainable modes of transport. |
