Description

Description

For 50 years, the “Sankta Maria” baccalaureate circulating on the Moselle has been the link between the German municipality of Oberbillig and its neighbouring Luxembourg municipality of Mertert-Wasserbillig. Due to the high maintenance costs of the bin, due to its age, the acquisition of a new modern electric-powered bin will now be carried out. With the maintenance of the ferry service, it will be possible to avoid an additional congestion of the “border bridge” between Wellen and Grevenmacher: On average, the bin carries about 14.000 litres of diesel, 65,800 passenger cars, 1,600 two-wheelers motorised and 19,500 bicycles. In the future, the consumption of about 14,000 litres of diesel, with the exhaust gases associated with their combustion, as well as noise nuisances will be avoided. The new bin will offer more space, its release is scheduled for autumn 2017.
